Downshire secured promotion to Div 1A following a 1 - 0 victory at Shorts and Newcastle's defeat at Shankill
In a tight match at Shorts Downshire secured the vital 3 points with a 1 - 0 away win which with Newcastle going down 3 - 1 at Shankill guarantees them promotion to 1A next season.
Playing against the wind in the first half Downshire were seldom troubled with the Shorts long ball tactics. Only once did Shorts hit the target when from a far post corner the ball was headed back and Burgess brought of a brilliant stop with his feet.
With 5 minutes to half time a brilliant 5 man move sliced the home defence open and the final pass from Cree was casually hammered home by Bingham. Gibson was then unlucky when his free kick was palmed unto the home post.
Downshire were content to defend and hit Shorts on the break in the second half where the pace of Cree and Davis stretched the home defence. The only concerns for the visitors came from conceded free kicks but Burgess was seldom tested in goal.
