Storms hit Coach Road 17 January 2009
Gales and torrential rain wrecked havoc at the Old Coach Road venue on Saturday

Standing on the touchline on Saturady was not recommended as the severe gales and rain bombarded the ground. The pitch held up remarkably well but unfortunately the opposition and the Referee were affected by the weather.
After having played for 45 minutes into the gale and scoring 3 excellent goals, it only took about 10 minutes of the second half before Orangefield wanted to call the match off. A few minutes later a tree crashed across the Old Coach Road bringing down the power lines and blocking the road. After Downshire added a fourth the referee allowed the match to pass the 70th minute and then decided against the home sides protests that he had had enough. Just to end the day off, there was no electricity or showers for the players and amazingly the wind died away within minutes of the match being stopped.
As the Rules stand Downshire should get the 3 points as over 70 minutes had been played. Also there was no doubt that Orangefield were ever going to recover as for the 25 minutes played, they never got the ball out of their own half.
